What version of Csound should I download?

Hi all,

I just got a new imac with core intel duo running on Leopard. The Csound link at soundforge say's I should download the latest Csound version unless I want to use MacCsound interface, which apparently makes life easier for mac users. Since I've never programmed anything in my life before, it's all a bit intimidating. Does anyone have experience in these matters?

Thanks

Rick

Dear Rick,

MacCsound is a text editor and programming environment with some nice features. However, there are other nice interfaces as well for the Mac, e.g., QuteCsound is something like a new cross-platform equivalent of MacCsound, and Blue works on a Mac as well. These programming environments work also with latest Csound version (5.10). For an Intel Mac you should use Csound5.10-float-Intel-OSX10.4.tar.gz (http://downloads.sourceforge.net/csound/Csound5.10-float-Intel-OSX10.4.tar.gz?download). There is also a version Csound5.10-double-Intel-OSX10.4.tar.gz, but that will only be interesting for you later once you want to give a finished piece a final touch.
