One thing I really wondering about the "abstract backing algorithm" they use to make chords that match a melody...
I am betting their program does a lot of looking at
A) all possible chords that can be created to match a note
B) what the last chord was
and then...
C) makes a chord that is very close to the last chord (IE c e g may become d f g or c f g)

At least judging by the backing chords created by the program in the examples...it sound like this is a lot of what they are doing.
This also would make a lot of sense as if you take scales going around the circle of fifths...they share 6 notes in common and have only one note not in common (which equals a very smooth transition between keys that are a 5th apart).

   Does anyone
else suspect this?  Why or why not?

Not a bad idea.

However ... is it ME? Because listening to the FIRST song reminds me of the
first time I saw the Window XP "Teletubby" background: that is, I feel like
if somebody had applied to me that classical medieval punishment: covering
your skin with honey and feathers ... Aaaaaarggggghhhhhh! Please get that
thing away from meee!!!

I lasted 25 seconds, but only because I'm in a good mood.

Mommy, make it stop.

Hehehehe....well that means good parenting on your part.  If it tried to stuff something it obviously couldn't figure out e-f-e into a g-major that says something nasty about the program...IE if it can't find a matching chord it will just pick a very pure/consonant chord in the general vicinity to "make up for" the notes it can't match.   G B D E is not exactly what I'd call a fair chord (IE looks like E is a neighboring tone), G B D F is not even in the same key (where is the F#?!).

At least...your daughter can tell the fake-ness.  My other question is how the heck did you buy her a Martin (very high quality type of acoustic)...last time I checked over $1500 was not an uncommon price for those: I learned to play on my dad's Martin; it's a great guitar.

I sang the opening Robert Plant riff to the immigrant song and it took f-f (octave) e f wail as a 7th to a g major :-\

The girls thought "its not that good" - and "its stupid"

But then my Emily (12 year old) is learning to play the 3/4 Martin acoustic I bought her, so it's like my son when asked "do you play guitar hero? he says No need, I play real guitar..."
