A belated Eid mubarak wasa'id and Rosh haShanah tovah if you've celebrated either...

I'm in the process of rediscovering the soundtrack for last year's _There Will Be Blood_, which was composed by Radiohead guitarist Johnny Greenwood:

The string-heavy soundtrack bears the influence of mid-to-late 20th century composers such as Penderecki and Messiaen (neither of which I'm very familiar with, but I have heard "Threnody"). He's using all sorts of cluster chords and quarter tones in this. I'm surprised it hasn't been discussed here on the list since the work got a lot of attention from critics, mostly positive. Greenwood would likely have won an Oscar had he not been disqualified for using "pre-recorded material".

I'm also listening to "Popcorn Superhet Receiver" right now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnNN1KigLO0 - it was that which got TWBB director Paul Thomas Anderson's attention.

Thanks, and some/most/all of the tracks are also uploaded on YouTube (in lower quality, of course). And a correction: it's Jonny Greenwood, not "Johnny"; my bad. ~D.
