Lazy Summer Afternoon

After I wrote this new piece I was too lazy to think of a title. :-)

Yeah, it's JI. No tempering here! Quite a bit different from my usual stuff, in more ways than one. I used the Edirol VSC and rgc:audio z3ta+ for the sounds.

Perhaps you could call it 'The Water is Wide' ... sounds very like
that old tune.

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm told that this is actually a well-known ancient Zireen melody, but I couldn't resist adding the Westminster chimes at the end, as they fit so well. :-)

I know I've heard that one before. I looked up a couple of videos on YouTube and it sounds very familiar. On the other hand, there's only so many ways to arrange those four notes.

In fact, there are exactly as many ways to arrange those four notes as are used in the melody for Lazy Summer Afternoon. :-)

I do the same thing -- look on YouTube for music. I find it
an interesting commentary on our culture that in order to look
up music one goes to a video sharing site.

It may be encouraging to some - possibly people seem to prefer seeing
actual musicians at work (however badly packaged). Depends if you
think of music as pure sound, or as an activity of musicians.
Of course the popularity of all the other things you can see on
YouTube bleeds over into the music videos.

It reminded me of the "Jodelling Song" in William Walton's "Facade"...another piece that explores permutations of Sol, Do, Re, Mi.

No, it's not that at all. Most of the time the thing I find
has no imagery of the musicians at all, or if it does, it's
just a slideshow of stills gathered from wherever. All this
has to do with the fact that music requires less bandwidth
than video, and therefore got on the internet first, and
therefore had a rougher time getting integrated into our
culture (it was annihilated). By the time video came around,
the powers that be didn't want to make the same mistake.
