Hey Aaron,

I am glad you enjoyed the piece. Melodies are said to be inspired from
Rast Kar-i Natik of Dede Effendi. In case you don't know. Kar-ı Natik
is a form of composition that exposes every significant maqam in
sequence and describes the executed maqam with a poetic stanza. My
friend and colleague Kemal Karaosmanoglu has a site that gives the
lyrics and notation:

http://www.musiki.org/rast_kar.htm

Bold lyrics are, as you might guess, the names of maqams.

I remember finding that site years ago. It had a few MP3s (including a recording of Dede Efendi's "Yine bir gülnihal"), TIFF scores and MIDI sequences, but they've reorganized everything, and I can't find the files. Except I'm far from fluent in Turkish, so I probably don't know where to look.

I'm just now discovering Dede Efendi. ~D.
