Sucks = minimalist criticism

p.s. I agree with whoever said it would have been wiser & more accurate
to say
"my favourites/essentials", since all taste is extremely subjective. For
example,
I live in Goa, India. Life in this country doesn't just suck, it
literally stinks
(p.s. no offence to any Indians, this is a reflection on the government,
not the
people), as a result of which I cannot stand "Indian" music or much else.
To me, it sucks.

Oh, and I think it makes a difference if you're reviewing the musician, or
the music. For example, last year there were a few exchanges about
Darreg's v/s Easley Blackwood's music and someone brought up how Ivor
didn't have the
time or resources to do any better. So, as a musician & theorist, Ivor is
Yoda,
but from a layman's point of view, some of the music may not be all that
great...

Just to make this post legit, I found something by accident :
A GENTLE INTRODUCTION TO SOUTH INDIAN CLASSICAL (KARNATIC) MUSIC
BY Mahadevan Ramesh
<http://www.aoe.vt.edu/~boppe/MUSIC/PRIMERS/icmb.html>
I haven't read it, but some of you will enjoy it.
