Junk mail on TL?

Hi tuners.

A few hours ago, I saw a weird message in the TL mail entitled "Browse, get your favourite songs & listen". Perhaps someone is spamming the TL? If so, I have absolutely no idea where it might be coming from and what could be done about it.

Yes. And that someone is Yahoo.

Since this list is a service of Yahoo, I don't expect there's
much that can be done. Perhaps a moderator or list owner can
opt out of such messages somewhere. Or perhaps they can train
the spam filter on them.

Yahoo is in real business trouble now. We can expect the
list to suffer (there were also long periods of the list's
web site being unavailable recently).

Not completely true. Someone added the spam to the group calendar
and Yahoo sent it out.

I've taken the item off the calendar, but it looks as if only the
list-owner can restrict access to the calendar or turn it off
completely.

My guess is that someone was the system. -Carl

No. There was an e-mail address listed for the person who created
the calendar entry. Someone found a backdoor way to spam the list via
the calendar and they had it set up for a daily spam. Yahoo may be in
trouble, and with their new deal with Google I'm not sure that they
are any more, but spamming their own customers would kill any good
will they might have with them.

I never agreed to accept mail from the calendar and I assume no one else did either. Is there no option to reject mail from the calendar?

One of these days Yahoo is going to get annoying enough that we really ought to move the list.
