It's almost as if someone pried open a TI-89 and a bunch of people
fell out, walked over to an available workstation, and started posting.

I wish Gene Ward Smith was here. That would really be something.

On a related topic, I'm wondering if this list is moving closer to, or
further away, from music. I have my suspicions, but I've watched it
wax and wane since 1996.

i think actually closer in the sense of , say the keyboard discussion, where we had actual people using these things in the field.
BTW i greatly look forward to hearing more of your own take in this field. you put forth some strong pieces in the past that filled in a great gap in what is presented here. no rush but do look forward to it!
