Music with the comma pump in semisixth

Hi again,

some of you may remember the recording I made around Christmas 2007. Now I decided to make a longer version of that in order I could include the semisixth comma pump somewhere in the piece. Trying to model the comma pump exactly according to how the primes go in order to get the actual comma, I discovered I needed at least a 16-tone semisixth chain, which is what I finally used. Anyway, this is the result: http://download.yousendit.com/200D2B03657A54F6

Wow, you really outdid yourself this time! What a fantastic
temperament!

I'm pleased as well. It's great to hear this from someone like you. I thought you were among the first ones who had heard the shorter version soon after Christmas.

I cross-posted it to Robert's new group.

Indeed, when I went into my "Petr Parizek" folder, I found
the earlier version, and indeed it sounded quite similar.
I replaced it with this version.

There are currently 5 objects in that folder. Though all
your stuff is very good, I only keep what most catches my ear.

Very good!

As for the scale, semisixth sounds remarkably close to just. I am
surprised I haven't come across it before. It doesn't sound the least bit
sour to my ears, at least in your hands.

It's a regular temperament. To make intervals in major and minor triads as close to JI as possible with pure octaves, I used the 16th root of 60 as the generator. The comma I'm tempering out here is 78732/78125 (or "2 9 -7" in terms of prime coordinates), which is only about 13 cents in size. So you can imagine that if I use the 16th root of 60 as the generator, then 6/5 is only one 8th of this comma narrower than just and both 3/2 and 5/4 are only one 16th of this comma away (3/2 is narrower than just, 5/4 is wider than just).

Have you tried the TOP tuning? Do you find tempered octaves
objectionable? -Carl

For Carl:

The reason why I used pure octaves was not because of the sound but because otherwise I would lose the possibility to play it on my keyboard in real time and I would have to retune the MIDI file with Scala. Unfortunately, the Yamaha XG SysEx message microtuning format doesn't allow other periods than 2/1.
