I want to thank everyone involved in responding to my posts concerning
equal division of the octave temperament and also concerning the diesis
question in just intonation.

Obviously, different people have differing opinions as to what constitutes
a "temperament," perhaps dependent upon "intent," a word that surfaced on
the list some time before, but hasn't much of late...

The idea of the just thirds piling on one another and creating the "diesis"
and the relationship of this to
"pumping" the pitch is pretty clear now. I also understand how this would
be a particular problem in relation to the way Schubert structures his
harmonies. However, if Paul Erlich would like to go into this question in
further detail, as he suggested, I would find it very interesting...

Thanks again!
