Many of you who were on this list in the late '90s may
remember a fellow named Bram, who posted here fairly
regularly and had a good command of the material. It was
Bram Cohen, inventor of Bittorrent.

Glad to take in that info (I'm an omnivore) - but
Carlos, what, pray tell, is/was Bittorrent.

explanation here:

http://www.techterms.com/definition/bittorrent

having recently illegally downloaded a TV show or two
recently, I was amazed by this tech. (being an old
fogey)

It sounds complicated, but for the user, it's just a
couple drag and clicks.

Hi Mark,

Bittorrent is the best and most popular software/method
for peer-to-peer filesharing over the internet. At some
point, bittorrent traffic was thought to account for 50%
of all internet traffic. Bram turned it into a company

http://www.bittorrent.com

and is doing very well for himself. He's also an
acquaintance of one of my coworkers here at Apple, through
the goth scene.
