AMERICAN FESTIVAL OF MICROTONAL MUSIC presents

MicroFest 2008: 2 NYC Concerts
Saturday – April 26; and Thursday – May 1– at 8 P.M.
The Church of the Epiphany
The American Festival of Microtonal Music (AFMM) under the direction of
Johnny Reinhard (since 1981) presents 2 NYC Concerts on April 26th and May 1st
at The Church of the Epiphany located at East 22nd Street and Second Avenue.
Concerts begin at 8 P.M. and general admission is $15, $12 for seniors and
students (with ID) at the door. The AFMM piano tuner is Marc Weinert.
Saturday, April 26th features the American premiere of PARTOTA by Hamburg
composer Manfred Stahnke, played by Joshua Pierce in Vallotti tuning. Mr.
Pierce joins violinist Dan Auerbach in THE DEVIL’S TRILL by Giuseppe Tartini and
Krzysztof Penderecki a MINATURY. Young composer and hornist James Ferree
plays his FORGOTTEN, and joins Auerbach and Pierce for the Johannes Brahms TRIO
IN Eb MAJOR Opus 40 for piano, violin and horn. Violinist Auerbach steps out
in HUDBA (1922) for solo violin in quartertones by microtonal pioneer Alois
Hába. Florentine Fluxus composer Giuseppe Chiari is represented by a
performance of INTERVALLI per pianist Pierce.
Thursday, May 1st brings Bosnian New Yorker Svjetlana Bukvich-Nichols’s
magical multi-media BEFORE AND AFTER THE TEKKE, featuring violinist Ana
Milosavlijevic. Violinist Dan Auerbach and pianist Joshua Pierce play the SONATA IN
G MAJOR K.301 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in Werckmeister III tuning, and the
SONATA IN G MAJOR Opus 78 by Johannes Brahms in Vallotti tuning. Violinist
Julianne Klopotic is Delilah and bassoonist Johnny Reinhard is Samson in the
polymicrotonal premiere of his SAMSON AND DELILAH. Selections of A MUSICAL
OFFERING by Johann Sebastian Bach are performed by violinists Klopotic and
Auerbach, bassoonist Reinhard, and pianist Pierce in Werckmeister III tuning.
Mr. Pierce includes a rare solo by composer Andreas Werckmeister, the
PRAELUDIUM.
MicroFest 2008 Boston concerts produced by the AFMM take place: Saturday,
May 3rd (Stahnke, Hába, Brahms, Tartini, Penderecki), and Sunday, May 4th
(Chiari, Ekimovsky, Reinhard, Vick), both at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul
(located at 138 Tremont Street) at 8 P.M.
