Haven't heard much so thanks for posting. In Journal of African studies, i think in the 60'S there was an article on them and how they liked the 7-9-11 harmonics as a preference. some time shifting the series a whole tone away> in fact this shifting of the harmonic series made a few speculate that this might be the basis of their Pentatonic, likewise use of the 5-6-7 shifted a whole tone.
I imagine it did play some role
