Has anyone refretted a Carnatic Vina? or any instrument with metal frets in wax rails?

Has anyone out there refretted a Carnatic Vina or any other instrument
that involves a similar procedure of setting metal bars into wax rails?

I'm particularly interested in the steps involved in preparing and
laying out the wax rails, but I would love to have a step-by-step
description of the whole procedure.

If anyone can recommend any good books on the subject [preferably in
English, Hindi, or Tamil, but I'd settle for anything :-)], that would
also be appreciated.
