Yes - Gamelan is a wonderful tradition. I performed in a gamelan
ensemble in Pittsburgh for several years, performing mostly Sundanese
and some Javanese as well under ethnomusicologist Andrew Weintraub. I
also had the lovely opportunity to perform with Ismet Ruchimat, Ati
Sumiati, Undang Sumarna, Burhan Sukarma, Gangan Garmana, Euis
Komariah, and dancer Ben Arcangel.
Gamelan is one of the most beautiful traditions of music in the world,
in my opinion. A very unique and noble music. Wayang golek is
incredible as well. There are even a few pieces of wayank golek
performance on youtube.com.
