Re: Sitar Tuning

Sorry for the late post, but I'm just catching up on all the Christmas
digests. Somebody had asked about tuning the Sitar. Scala gives the
following for the modern Hindustani gamut in INDIAN_12.SCL:

North Indian Gamut, modern Hindustani gamut out of 22 or more shrutis
0: 1/1 0.000000 unison, perfect prime
1: 16/15 11.73128 minor diatonic semitone
2: 9/8 3.910001 major whole tone
3: 6/5 15.64128 minor third
4: 5/4 -13.68628 major third
5: 4/3 -1.955000 perfect fourth
6: 45/32 -9.776284 tritone
7: 3/2 1.955000 perfect fifth
8: 8/5 13.68628 minor sixth
9: 27/16 5.865002 Pythagorean major sixth
10: 9/5 17.59628 just minor seventh
11: 15/8 -11.73128 classic major seventh
12: 2/1 0.000000 octave

So, rounded to whole cents from equal temperament, the sitar tuning
would be:

Sa: 0
komal Re: +12
Re: 4
komal Ga: 16
Ga: -14
Ma: -2
tivre Ma: -10
Sa: +2
komal Dha: +14

Cheers,
Christopher
