To throw a wrench into the works, i will say i have experimented with
a variety of score layouts and have found for instance equatone and
klarscripto ( pardon i forget the proper names) is compared to the
traditional staff they are all take up more vertical space. the one
thing i do like about notations based on keyboard layouts though is
someone who doesn't know how to read music can get the sequence of
notes without any problem.
