My theatrical microtonal works Odysseus and Adam and Eve, along with the
premiere performance (as far as I know) of Harry Partch's Potion Scene (Meredith
Borden, soprano and violist Anastasia Solberg), will be presented on Oct.
27th in Lower East Side Manhattan as part of Elodie Lauten's new feature.
Please take a look at the following URL for further info. BTW, Odysseus will be
performed in Boston on May 4th.

Additionally, the next day I am presenting the contemporary bassoon at the
NYU Double Reed Festival. Contact me off list for further details.

First performance: February 9, 1932, San Francisco; subsequent
performances followed. An easy look-up in the Gilmore biography. Hope
the concerts go well.

Cheers,
Jon

Thanks, Jon. I'll be sure to double check the history in Gilmore. Would it
be correct to say that there is not other existing recording of Potion Scene?

As far as I know, that is true. Partch didn't record it; if someone
has done it in the last 25 years or so, it may have escaped my notice,
but I'm not aware of any. Could be my age, too. ;)

Also, in light of things I didn't know, Harry has a series of major
motion pictures out, apparently:

I don't even understand what that's all about ...
but i did want to mention that i was very surprised
one day while watching an old rerun of an episode
of _Hawaii Five-0_: in one scene, and informant
gives a piece of paper to police chief Steve McGarrett
(actor Jack Lord) with the name of the primary suspect,
and guess what the suspect's name was? Harry Partch.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that there was
some connection between Partch and the TV series.
I don't remember exactly what it was (if i'm even
correct about the recollection), maybe a producer
of the show had produced one of Partch's dramas,
something like that.

Either people think I'm kidding or they're profoundly jealous that
I discovered this tid bit of scholarly research. It's right there in the credits for the film.
I'm watching it right now.

Thanks for that. I knew that at some time after i had
seen that episode on TV, that i had read something
somewhere that awakened me to the connection. So i
guess i must have read it in the credits of _Delusion_
too ... i've certainly seen the video several times,
both before and after i saw the _Hawaii Five-0_ show.

While we're on the subject of avant composers and prime time TV,
a recent Downbeat interview with Anthony Braxton points out
that his name was used as the name of a pot dealer on the Cosby show.

I don't know what that was all about...

The Uncyclopedia looks like the perfect place for a biography of George
Secor, complete with two different birthdays.
