Well, I have to venture my *own* perspective here, as well. While I'm
greatly attracted to the "warmth" and depth of traditional instruments,
I'm also quite fascinated with the pairing with electronic and
mechanical elements. It seems, from people I speak with and the
response I get from things, that many also share these enthusiasms.
Somehow this contrast "wakes up" my mind...

I'm even sometimes fascinated by music as performed by *robots!*
(Although, admittedly they lack the finesse of the legendary chimpanzee
at the typewriter...)

"Musicianship for Robots with Style"

I saw this linked from another group,

***Hello Clark!

Thanks for finding this article, which is interesting. I guess one
must keep in mind that "Bot" can make a lot of progress since while
some of us have to go out and work to make a living, it can sit on
the couch connected, probably, by USB cable and "absorb" musical
learning at leasure...

I'm glad they also mention LEMUR as a reference:

http://www.lemurbots.org/about.html

We have actually had these talented robots on our Composers
Concordance concert series here in New York, performing a piece by
engaging composer Joshua Fried.

The robot "GuitarBot" was very talented, and was programmed never to
complain about the producer or music director. It accepted modest
wages: only asking that the electricity not be turned off...
