Dear Oz,

You have injected your religion, and I believe it is unwarranted. Charles
has every right to write what he feels, as you often do at the drop of a hat.
Threatening, even tongue in cheek, is uncalled for.

Let us all be clear, We have different belief systems and religions on this
list. We intend only respect for each other as we speak about our particular
points of view. It truly goes to the heart of how we may define things, as
we must first define our sense of reality.

Calling religiosity a "psychiatric condition" is hardly respectful to what a believer holds dear, my adamant Johnny. It implies that we of various creeds, including (not surprisingly) yourself, are cases for shrinks. Now, that is totally uncalled for, and outside the mission of this group.

I usually have a rule not to barge in on what other people believe in at a place like this, and I expect reciprocation. I am certain the majority feels the same.

If I were to ridicule a member's, say, atheistic credo by stating that it was the position of illiterate ignorants, would that be acceptable in light of freedom of speech? Besides, what purpose does it serve other than needlessly irritate souls?

This is the tuning list. If you want to ejaculate, taunt and tease someone because of his/her religion, write to his/her private e-mail. Or invite him/her to another platform dedicated to such.

Moderators?

Oz.

Hi Oz;

Let's not have a flame war about this.

My comments on the list re. religion were in response to someone who
had posted here suggesting that my interest in musical tuning was
influenced by my religious point of view.

This reminded me of an interview that I had done on BBC Radio 4 a
couple of years ago.

The interview is linked here:

http://www.lucytune.com/mp3/OutOfTune2.mp3

This interview and the musical examples were recorded in our flat in
London, and whilst the presenters were here, my wife (who is a
Catholic) commented that John Harrison was devoutly religious.

(BTW Harrison also wrote very disparagingly about clerics in a couple
of his books and manuscripts - see the transcriptions).

That Harrison was very religious was announced by the presenter which
made it sound as though my interest in Harrison was also in some way
religious.

This was/is/prolly never will be the case; my interest was/is only
musical and scientific, yet the BBC audience could have been misled
due the presenter regurgitating my wife's comments at the time.

Having had this unfortunate experience with people suggesting that I
had a religious motive, when I saw the comment on the list today I
responded to clarify that I have no religious affiliation,

and to state my own perspective and prejudices about religion.

Although I fail to believe in any particular religion, nevertheless I
appreciate the cultural, ethical and moral influences which religious
organisations and beliefs have had and continue to have on

human societies and consciousness.

So let's not argue about religion - frankly I find the whole subject
of religion boring.

Vive peace and harmony ;-)

What makes you think Charles' comment was directed at you,
Ozan? I didn't take it that way at all.

Did I say it was directed at me? It was hurtful nevertheless.
