"But alas, I think you are right, Aaron: it would be horribly
unpopular. I've seen no evidence that there are more than a handful
of microtonalists in these online communities interested in *gasp*
focusing their energies on MAKING MUSIC. And the many many
microtonalists in the real world that DO primarily focus on making
music, have no interest in discussing it online.

But hey, if you want to give it a shot, you've got my support."

Hey Ig -- I love you, man.

I say start the group. The other problem is when someone does post music to the MMM list no one comments. Hence is isn't much incentive to put things up. The recent french horn music which must be one of the most extended use of harmonics fingered or not. While groups have come and go. much was accomplished by their existence. I would object to the monthly deadline though. It might take me three months on a work and i prefer to save these till they are done. I also think it should be private. I don't like for instance that if i put up something electronically it is what comes up under a scearch of my music. Considering they are often one off pieces and turn they end up barying the works i spend allot more time on. As well as those not being oy what i hope is such specalized interest. I think it would be a worth while experiment. If the discussion gets to be too much we have it move over to MMM

The I Ching stuff? I thought it was crap, so I didn't post.
Of course that's the thing about having a discussion about
music that somebody in the group made. It rapidly degenerates
into 'oh, another triumph, can I give you a hot stone massage?'
or silence.

At best discussion about music is like a music appreciation
or crit class -- which isn't all that great in the first
place. Then imagine the composer isn't dead, he's sitting
in the class...

YMMV,

I think the monthly deadline is a bit much, too. But I like the spirit of keeping the focus and serious intent on sharing composition.

How about this....we all annouce our CDs or iTunes tracks, and anyone interested should buy music to support the artists....no more freebies.

Microtonalists *buy* something? That's rich.

It's an interesting question. If people are making music, I
think it should be available to a wider audience, not just
other microtonalists. And it shouldn't be a discussion list
at all. It should be a store, maybe with a comments system.
But you'll have to get someone to shell out almighty sums
like $6/month for a domain..... good luck. I'm preparing
myself to keep clicking through multiple ads and giving
out my e-mail address to get music.
