Tuning nastiness

Aaron K just mentioned that he was appalled by the rudeness that often happens here...I agree, although it's sometimes very entertaining, in a bizarre way, sort of like watching Britney Spears self destruct on MTV; but, it's ultimately sad to me, to watch rather intelligent folks get angry at each other over what I consider really stupid stuff. And yes, Carl has a point, this list is really valuable in some ways, because there is so much important info here about tunings. But, and I know I've said this before...I rarely ever recommend this list to any of my students, or other people I meet that might be interested in tunings (and there's more and more of them), precisely because of the bitterness and sniping that seems to constantly happen here. And, over the years I've seen some very interesting folks appear briefly here, then vanish pretty fast when they get a look at the whoopin' and hollerin' that goes on...but, I don't blame them at all. But, we're all the losers when that happens, because we miss out on getting info from some really sharp folks.

So, even thought there's some good discussions occasionally, this list is never going to the resource it could possibly be; and that's really too damn bad, because I am meeting people all over the world who are becoming interested in the study of tunings; I really think the subject is starting to interest a lot of new people (as I mentioned about the micro club at Berklee). But, the negative atmosphere here has been going on for years, and I really don't see it changing anytime soon. Being able to disagree without anger is a real important part of being a mature individual, I believe...it can be done, although it isn't always easy. It would seem that intelligence in tuning matters, and behaving peacefully on a forum, don't seem to necessarily be related...Hstick

Hmm, dunno - I got the impression that this list is quite friendly, at
least most of the time... Nothing wrong in recommending it to
interested people. Is it really that bad?
