I have sound and video turned off in IE, but some disgusting creeps
whom I spit on manage to get around that. Anyone know how to fix the
problem?

Sorry to here that Gene Wizard yet, OSX and Safari.

Surprisingly long term the total costs for getting and running a Mac will cost you less than comparable M$ software for greater capability,
Many applications will run on OSX, which are freeware, open source, and/or already installed when you buy a new Mac.

If you're really locked into M$, you can also run M$ OS (XP, Vista, etc.) on Intel Macs.

Apologies for "here = hear" typo.

It also helps to have friends/contacts/neighbours who have OSX experience, lotsa software, and "open" attitudes;-)

Assuming you're not currently wanting the hassle of switching
computers, why not just get firefox? Or opera, or any of the many free
browsers available for Windows. Link for firefox (which is what I've
been using for years) is http://www.getfirefox.com

Peace,
Patrick

Probably because there's no indication they'd actually solve the problem. For example, how do you turn of sound in Firefox?

I used to use Firefox, but decided it was too much of a resource hog. I
sometimes use Opera, maybe I could use it more.

Now that we are off-topic, does anyone know how to disable the key
which erases everything and doesn't allow it to be restored? I do that
by accident sometimes, increasing my loathing for the people who think
they are smart for inventing such things. Since I do it by accident,
I'm not sure what key or combo it is--something on the bottom right-
hand side.

You mean when composing in a web form? Late-model IBM keyboards
have Back & Fwd browser nav. buttons conveniently placed above
the left and right cursor keys (on ether side of the up arrow
in the 'inverted T'). One of the more diabolical HCI designs
I've seen.

Fortunately Firefox 2 caches the contents of web forms, so you
can go Fwd again and everything's still there.

No, in a program which opens an edit window, such as Xnews.
