Slow Dance in 13 edo

I'm getting caught up in the excitement about 13 edo. I have enjoyed
the works that have been posted recently. I thought I would post an old
piece that I never got around to finishing like I wanted to.

I played this once with a different patch for a friend. It was pretty
dissonant and he claimed he could hear it with his deaf ear. We tried
some other pieces and this is the only one that worked.

Thanks,
Daniel Thompson

Dreamy and sorrowful. Brings a tear to the eye.

Oz.

If it cures deafness there's more to it than I realized.

Imagine the irony. You are cured of deafness and the first thing you
hear is music in 13 edo. It would be enough to cause some to want to
crawl back into the world of silence!

I'm not criticising 13 edo, but I realise it can be an acquired taste.

I probably got too grumpy about it, but I didn't
much like the claim it sounds like out of tune
12edo. Like a lot of music both microtonal or not,
it makes me tense and jumpy. My ears keep trying to
make sense out of it, and failing. Just listening
to recorded classical music, which sometimes starts
to sound screechy and out of tune to me, is enough
of a problem.

There's been so much talk about 13 lately that I've last track of who
has said what or on what thread. It doesn't bother me to hear
criticism of 13 or any tuning. I realise that perceptions of music
vary widely. Your observations are appreciated. For me, part of the
appeal of microtonal music is the insight it provides into musical
perception and culture. I think microtonal music can help us to
understand each other better.

I personally find some dissonant chords in 12edo to be among the most
unpleasant sounds around. I even have trouble with 19edo at times. I
enjoy some things about 13edo, but can well appreciate how many would
find it to be unsettling.
