Hi Dan;

Pendulum equations

There is a traditional standard pendulum equation, which John 'Longitude' Harrison would have been familiar with:

see here:

http://www.ajdesigner.com/phppendulum/simple_pendulum_equation_period.php

It connects the length and time values with gravity, and uses the 2 pi root expression.

I would be very interested to know what you discover about the mathematics of pendulums.

This (2 pi root) is the same mathemetical expression which Harrison used as the basis of the calculation of his pi related tuning,

(2^(1/2*pi))

I have long suspected that it was this mathematical connection which helped him to conceptualise his tuning derived from pi system.

There may be some further "hidden philosophy" behind the maths here, which I have yet to be able to conceptualise.
