Ozan - Kanun Music and Vid Recommendations?

🔗paolovalladolid <phv40@hotmail.com>

Ozan,

I've started watching/listening to kanun music on YouTube and really
like what I've heard/seen so far. Sometimes I am reminded of Western
classical guitar or even flamenco.

Do you have any particular recommendations? I'd also like to pick up
a CD or two. I'm especially interested in any music that features
your 79-tone MOS tuning.

Thanks,
Paolo

Paolo, I am very pleased to learn of your interest in kanun music. Though I
listened to no solo kanun CD, I'm sure you will enjoy the tone of the
instrument in these CDs:

Turkish Art Music Compositions - Instrumental Works Collection

"Life is a song" Huzzam Collection

Turkish Art Music Selections, Kurdili Hijazkar Collection

Songs loved by Ataturk:

This seems to be dedicated to kanun music, but I haven't listened to it
myself:

For the 79-tone music, I beg a little more patience. Once I set the theory
in place, a new school of music can be started in Turkiye featuring this
model.

Oz.

Thanks Ozan! I'm going to start with the last title that you
recommended because that online store has English. :)

Here are YouTube videos that captured my interest, as I was doing a
search for examples of kanun being played:

Ok, those do not sound good. How about this one?

Reminds me, I gotta make an appearance there in the future.

The intonation on this one doesn't sound right to me.

This one is better, but still sounds like a crummy proxy for
lute intonation.

I was going to say, I just fired up your 79-tone Qanun
demo to compare, and it was like night and day. There must
be something to your tuning.

The intonation problems are due probably to slipshod tuning... which brings
us back to square one.

I placed my order for the last 2 titles you recommended - mainly
because that store has instructions in English. :) Thanks again, Ozan.

The vid looks like a succinct demo of kanun playing technique. I'm
amazed you guys can coordinate flipping the little levers with note
selection. I hope to see you on YouTube too!
