Enharmonic derision

Somewhere I've read that a musical amateur in later times "vomited black
bile" upon hearing an enharmonic melody, but I can't recall where I read
it. This might be just a hyperbolic way of saying it made him very
melancholy, but it does imply that the enharmonic genus had fallen out
of favor by that time.
