The sampling twist

Does anyone have any ideas or experience with the popular trends in
"sampling" music??? I've been reading articles which claim that a lot of
recent music (albeit mostly "pop" but it might cross over into other
genres) is based on previous "samples."

This being the case, it presents another "twist" to the interpretation vs.
"intent" argument.

If the 21st century is becoming more and more an amalgam... doesn't this
mean the "victory" is to the homogenizers, rather than to the purists?...

Or perhaps this phenomenon will stay more in the realm of pop and not
infect more "serious" studies.
