Here's a wonderful quote from the liner notes to Hesperion XXI's CD, "Orient-Occident:" "If our disoriented humanity is to regain some shred of hope, we must go far beyond a dialogue between cultures and beliefs to engage in a dialogue between souls. At the beginning of the 21st century, that is the indispensible mission of art." I really believe that art can be a great healing force in the world, and at the deepest level, I, as a musician, hope to be a small part of that healing. And, one of the reasons I enjoy the study of tunings so much is to look for ways to make better and more profound music.
So, I want to say to the folks on this list, the very best in 2007 and beyond. I am very grateful for everyone here, no matter our disagreements...I feel that, at least, we're all trying to move the beautiful art of music into new places, and that means a lot to me. So whether you're a math guy/girl, theorist, practicing musician, or some combination thereof, you are much appreciated...hoping we have many more years of learning, squabbling, humor, and insights into what makes music tick...best from Denver...Hstick

Neil,
I could'nt agree more with the phrase **. . . a dialogue between souls.** in your quote. It takes me to a new and higher level of spirituality.
As a matter of fact, my name, written "Can" in present day Turkish, is a Farsy (Persian) word meaning *soul* in English.
Thus, may I be allowed to join your cascade of wonderful wishes for the future of this list and music-addicts elsewhere with my name as my primary *credential*.

Indeed, what better way for a dialogue between souls than through music which plucks at our heartstrings.
Merry tuning and season's greetings everyone.
Oz.

Neil, you've picked a beautiful album to highlight your message. To
you, Ozan, Can, and everyone else, my fondest wishes for a future that
moves toward peace and understanding. Make every note of music that
you conjure mean something towards this end!
Peace,
Jon
