8 days left for basking in 17 tone piano project fantasies

I've gotten some scores from some people already (all of which make me
very excited), but for those last-minuters (like myself), or those who
conveniently have the next week free, this can be used as a reminder that

the "deadline" for scores of 17 tone piano music is next Sunday, which
leaves 8 days if you count both Sundays, and I do.

The link for the project remains:

Questions, complaints always welcome...

Darn ... i really wanted to compose something for this project,
but unfortunately (for the project, not for me), i'm on vacation
and will return home on Sunday the 27th. Oh well ...

Jacob,

I've been to busy (a baby, other projects). Maybe next year(s) if
you continue. Is the project still going? How many submissions did
you get?

Best,
Aaron.

Hi Aaron,

(A baby - what a project!)

I got about 10 submissions, which makes for a nice length concert,
fortunately. I'll have more details as things are finalized. I find
the similarity of certain groups of pieces interesting and perhaps
telling of the common routes of stumbling into micro-obsession!

I just updated the webpage
(http://xenharmonic.wikispaces.com/SeventeentonePianoProject) giving a
tentative December 1st deadline for a second call for scores - would
that give you enough time to do anything? Or still too squeezed?

I extend this question to monz as well, and anyone who was feeling
conquered by the timing of this. For a second concert I'm also
banking on some local (Houston) interest to be bolstered by the first
concert...(which of course will be a smashing success)

Let me know,
Jacob

Now if you just had used 34-et instead, maybe you could have gotten 20
submissions. But I doubt a call for 612-et pieces could have led to
360 submissions.

Still, between 34, 68, 289, 323, 612 and 1547, I guess multiples of 17
do OK for themselves.

If 17 got 10,
and 34 got 18 submissions,
what would 79 out of 159 get?

Cool ... as soon as i read this i got inspired and started
composing my 17-edo piano piece!

... Unfortunately, i thought this was going to be my only
day off this week, because i forgot about a commitment i have
which will take up the whole morning and afternoon -- then
the rest of the day has to be devoted to homework which
i should have (and wish i could have) done days ago.

But anyway, the opening theme is established! So finishing it
will be easy and just a matter of the time i can devote to it.

Any parameters i need to know about? -- i.e., length of the piece,
2 or 4 hands, etc.?

Don't these questions all belong on the tuning-math list?

Just did a little improvisation in 17...extended JI? RI? that is
fairly close to EDO (averaging about 5 cents off per interval from
17-EDO, according to Scala). It is extremely accurately tuned
(individual samples per note generated in Csound, tuned by
multiplying the base tone by the ratio).

I'm curious as to how you feel it "feels", overall, compared to 17-
ET, can I send you the file per email? (I have no place to post it
and no time to notate it (I'll shoot for the next round)).

Actually we do have a third piano to abuse this year (and a fourth
one, which sounds really dead). I'd rather stick to 3, but to get 34
in just 3 pianos we'd have to invent a slightly more crazy scheme.
Maybe chain-o-minor-thirds. The hockets would get even more messy, of
course.

Hello,

I saw your posting on the tuning list. May I direct your attention to
a project I did in Cologne in 1989 involving two Yamaha Disklaviers
in 17-tone temperament? I compiled a book with the piano scores,
which was published by Thürmchen Verlag in Cologne. The URL is:
http://www.thuermchen.de/ or http://www.thuermchen.de/VERLAG/books.html.
