Debussy planned to write six sonatas for various chamber ensembles, of which
three (vc/pf; fl/va/hp; vn/pf) were completed. In the manuscript for the
_3eme Sonate_ is a handwritten note that the fourth would be for Oboe, Horn
and Harpsichord. Thus, it is reasonable to assume that he was investigating
the possibilities of the latter instrument at the time of his death.
