what's with 1/1 going under?

That's kinda too bad, isn't it?

I first heard it from Johnny Reinhard, and it is indeed true. I
received what is pronounced to be possibly the last issue of 1/1 today.

Doty has done a great job of keeping it going all these years.

I do hope others can step up "to the plate." I guess John Schneider
is going to help some. Probably if they live in San Francisco it
would be best.

I guess I have an archive of maybe 30 or 40 issues, most of them
pretty interesting...

He sure has.

When he moved to Denver, Norman Henry entrusted me with
a few dozen back issues, too.

Dang, I only joined 2 issues ago. I hope it keeps going somehow.

That's funny, Griffin Toffler just gave me her entire collection a couple
weeks ago.

I had thought my editorial in 1/1 12:2 was clear about "what's with 1/1 going under?"

If you haven't received the issue yet, it's at www.justintonation.net/resignation.pdf

John Schneider is guest editing one issue only, on Ben Johnston's 80th birthday.

No one, as of now, has volunteered to do anything else.

It is neither necessary nor particularly useful to be in California in order to work on 1/1, since all editorial communication, reviews, etc., have been done by email for the last several years. What is necessary is the appropriate skill set, beginning with fluency in English and knowledge of JI, and the willingness to do a lot of work for no money.

A retrospective on some of the articles would be interesting.

Perhaps putting some of the old ones online or going online in the
future?

I don't know what it was typeset with over the years, but
presumably it wouldn't be hard to make pdfs back to the mid
90s at least.

It's easy to scan a page with great resolution (doesn't have to be 8 1/2 x 11),
read it into Word or Quark print it to PDF. Just have to own the hardware/software.
I hear there are third party PDF printer drivers, but I haven't used them.

PDF is a great way to send scores by email, btw.

PDFCreator is a printer-driver solution that works very well, and is free:

Scanning a bunch of stuff can be time consuming, and the files
will be large and won't contain reliable textual information.
That's why "printing" to pdf from the app it was typeset in is
a better idea.

If you say so. I don't see anything wrong with taking care of bidnez and finishing the job.
