Terpstra keyboard is here!

Johnny Reinhard's collaboration with Siemen Terpstra, the Bosanquet-
based Terpstra keyboard is here at Queens College. I played on it
today. Professor Joel Mandelbaum is the custodian of this
creation. It's mostly working, except somehow one of the five
circuit boards got damaged in transit, so one octave of a 55-equal
design does not work right now. That will be fixed.

Mandelbaum has it working with Scala with generic computer
synthesizers at present, although I believe it can be configured
with external modules. Or, we could consider software synths that
read Scala files somewhere down the line.

In any case, the newest version of Scala 2.22, makes it possible to
use multi-channel mappings and Dylan Horvath in Canada did a correct
mapping for 55-equal. So we basically had a working synth for this
temperament, minus the one missing (regrettably) octave.

Other mappings are possible and Horvath is to, supposedly, provide
those in the future.

Among the personages experiencing this keyboard for the first time
were Joel Mandelbaum, electronic microtonal composer maven Elodie
Lauten, piano virtuoso Joshua Pierce, maestro Johnny Reinhard,
composer and electronic wizard Hubert Howe and yours truly, humble
servant of microtonality who still seemed at times to be the only
person able to adequately distinguish midi in from midi out.

In any case, all went well, and we will be on soon to further
explorations with this equipment....

So *that's* the reaon I had the sudden impulse to make sure my softsynth can
handle input from two-dimensional keyboards.

Hoping with you. (But the money is another thing.)

No, not yet ... i was just kidding, because last year when
i visited you, you were ready to pay for it then. But you
can certainly be a tester.

I'm busting my hump finishing the film score for
"Darks and Whites", which has to be finished by Monday
morning. After that, when i can breathe again, i'll talk
to Chris about getting you set up.
