just intonation keyboard

Version 0.91 of the 'intune' software is now available.

The 'intune' software allows you to play a keyboard instrument in
perfect (just) intonation or capture a keyboard performance and
convert the captured performance to just intonation.

The central program in the package is PlayTuned, which allows you to
play in just intonation or capture the performance for editing.

New in this version: the Editor, which allows you to add modulation
indicators and make other changes to support replay in just
intonation; and the Playback program, which plays files output by the
Editor or captured by PlayTuned.

Also new in this version is support for temperaments (in addiion to
equal temperament). The Thomas Young temperament of 1799 is included.

The 'intune' software is written entirely in Java.

For download and documentation, go to http://www.intunation.com.

Would it be possible to get it to take a midi file and retune it?

This looks like an interesting program. But I ought to mention
that the name of the program may be a source of some confusion,
as Brad Smith also has a microtonal relay program (and a useful
one at that although it seems to have disappeared from the web)
with the name InTun ; there is also another program called
InTune at http://www.physics.usyd.edu.au/~marek/intune/index.html .

These all seem like useful applications and it would be a shame
if one or the other were lost in a confusion over names.

Thanks for pointing that out. I may have to think up
another name for the package.

Actually, that's the next thing I'm working on. The
problem is that there don't seem to be very many .mid
files that are musically good. Apparently they are
produced by feeding a score into some program that
generates MIDI commands, and the result sounds
mechanical.

Sometimes that is the case. Sometimes it comes from a live
performance, or much more care than you suggest goes into the sequencing.

If you know of a source of musically good MIDI files, please let me
know. I'd like to have something good to test with. A single
instrument would be best.
