Wow, Aaron, are you guys still active? Telluride
July '05 isn't that long ago.

Is that a normal Chapman stick? (Is there such a thing
as a normal stick?)

What the heck is a viper violin, and is it capable
of microtones?

Carl,

We were full time, aspiring professionals at one point. We
basically split up after the last summer, realizing that we were
not all on the same page as far as career focus and musical
focus and ability to compromise with everyone's differences.
We are still friends. We will play together at Drew's solo debut
in April. Otherwise, we're going our separate ways. The Viper
violin comes both fretted and fretless, and Jay's is fretted for
ET. It blends better with piano and ET Stick. It is still capable
of bending and slurring notes. The fretless version is really
awesome, I know someone that plays one of those.

It is a normal Stick, but I'm currently in the midst of long-term
work to create /acquire a microtonal Stick. More on that when
it actually happens. Don't hold your breath, it'll be a year or two.

Interesting. Can you tell us who is making the microtonal Stick? Is
it SE?

I owned a fretless Viper before selling it to switch back to cello.
It was indeed a sweet instrument.

Kyool. Thanks for the info, and let us know when you get
your micro-stick. Guess I didn't realize the standard
sticks were so big. Say, do you know about the Starr Boards
of John Starrett?

I am in fact working with Stick Enterprises. This is not a totally
independant project Stick-knock-off. I'm working with Emmet
Chapman and waiting to hear back from Hervé Chouard. I'm
hesitant to let out details early, but the community oriented
side of me tends to win, and I feel better about being open and
honest. I want this instrument and would do whatever it takes,
but I'm lucky to seem to get it going with the original maker
and all. Emmett jammed with John Schneider last month, on
my organizing impulse with the goal of discussing my project.
I'm waiting now, and it will definitely be a long time before anything
really happens. You guys at this group will certainly here of it
when it does though.

I do know about that, thanks though. I certainly find it interesting
and wish I was able to really try it sometime.

Thanks for the clarification, Aaron. I recall Emmett once made a
19-tone Stick, and that was the last I heard of his involvement with
microtonal music. Looking forward to updates as they come.
