Scala update

There are new releases of the OSX and Linux versions of Scala.
The OSX version now can also play midi-files without the need
for an external player, like the Windows version. Use PLAY and
PLAY/STOP.
Tuning support for NI Kontakt and Korg X5DR has been added.
Thanks to Nick Dan, Steven Miller and Bill Sethares for their
help.

Sorry if I have asked this before, but is there any possibility of
Scala becoming truly free software? I'd love to read the source.
You're already giving it away free of charge; why not go all the way?

Yes, probably some time in the future. At the moment I still like to
keep control over the development though.
But you can read and compile the source code if you want. You're only
not allowed to copy it. I'll send you a mail.

Hi Manuel,

First, thank you for writting and maintain this powelful tool that is Scala.

I think you can keep the control over the development even if you release Scala as free software. I know several pieces of free software the are maintained by only one person. I don't think Scala original project can be harmed by some personal version, or even that there is a serious risk of forking.

By the way, I am using Scala-2.21e on GNU/Linux, but I could not make MIDI-playing to work (I use awesfx SoundFont synthesis for a Creative Audigy soundcard). Is there some plan for Jack support?

Cheers,
Hudson Lacerda

It's not worked for me under W2000 either. A midi player that
supported MTS would be very welcome.

I've heard the G5 may still give problems. Can you send me the console
log file from the directory where the scala binary is?

You have to set up virtual midi ports first. In OSX they can be
created on the fly, but I think with ALSA it's only possible by
editing its config file.

No, but I plan to add ALSA support sometime. Now it uses the ALSA OSS
emulation.

I don't experience any problems under W2000.

Never mind this, everyone please download it again. Sorry for the
inconvenience.

Could you tell me how to do please?

I need to access one from these MIDI ports:

65:0
65:1
65:2
65:3

Cheers,
Hudson
