QUINTET.NET 2006
______________________

I'd like to announce the availability of a Quintet.net update both
for Mac OS X (10.3 and greater) and Windows XP.
Quintet.net is a unique networked performance environment with an
open architecture and can be used for microtonal, algorithmic
composition and/or full-fledged multimedia performance.

New microtonal tunings as well as modules for algorithmic processing
of control data can be easily added to expand the features of the
environment which consists of five tightly integrated components.

The installers can be downloaded for free from: http://www.quintet-
net.org/dl-frames.html.

I also updated the software's website (http://www.quintet.net) with
information about recent activities including local and Internet
performances throughout Europe. There are two permanent ensembles
dedicated to the performance of music written with and for
Quintet.net. The repertoire of pieces composed or arranged for the
environment now includes 9 pieces, with 3 new pieces composed in
2005, Sisyphos by microtonal composer Manfred Stahnke among them.

Another pieces, Bridges, is a collaborative piece written by 5
composers from Germany (Kai Niggemann, Marlon Schumacher), Austria
(Johannes Kretz), Hungary (Andrea Szigetvári) and Serbia (Ivana
Ognjanovic). A movie of the December 13, 2005 performance of Bridges
is available as a Quicktime stream (http://www.quintet-net.org/real-
frames.html).

An interview in German on Quintet.net conducted by the Hamburg cable
TV station TIDE can be streamed from rtsp://193.175.148.231/
Quintet.net/Quintet.net-TIDE-small.mp4.

The Yahoo group /quintet-net/ has become
a lively platform for the exchange of ideas and suggestions.
