Your browser doesn't have a default application to play .aif(f) files,
I'm guessing. That said, posting an aif or aiff format file is pretty
awkward, as it is far from the de factor standard. Charles/Ozan, could
you guys post an mp3 or ogg of the tune? (In the meantime, I'm going
to go see if I can download it).

Cheers,
Jon

I trust Charles can prepare a quality audio file and make a link to his
website. I'm afraid that my quota will be insufficient for many downloads.

Cordially,
Ozan

Oh, my word! That was a 35mb download for a 3+ minute song! I'll do up
a version in mp3 and ogg and post it on one of my sites...

Cheers,
Jon

Ozan/Charles,

I converted the file into both mp3 and ogg encodings, shrinking the
file from over 35mb to (repectively) 3.1 and 2.8mb. I'm posting them here:

http://www.microtonal.org/music/Highgate2.mp3
http://www.microtonal.org/music/Highgate2.ogg

...not so much that other people can download them (though they are
welcome to), but if one or both of you could download copies and then
place them on one of your sites and let me know, I'll take them down
at that time.

And by then I might have had the chance to listen! :)

Cheers,
Jon

That was excellent Jon! Thank you for your help.

If you have time, I would also like to hear your opinion as to the best
microtonal computer/midi/sample setup available in the market.

Season's greetings.
Oz.

No problem.

Ouch - too big a question. I couldn't even begin to discuss it
unless/until you answer at *least* the following:

1. What is the purpose of the system (specifically, what kind of music
are you wanting to make, and in what manner - improvisation, composing
on a score, playing live, etc)

2. Do you already have an investment in one of the major platforms?

3. What is your budget?

Only after that could anyone start to come up with some answers. And
there is no one *best* system, just the one that happens to fit your
needs best.

Cheers,
Jon

Ah, here are the criteria:

1. Composing on a score, arranging and professional mixing:

a) I want to create large orchestral John Williams style music such as Star
Wars, Harry Potter, and the excellent poetic music of The Last Samurai as
well as the Lord of the Rings. Is it not possible to generate realistic
sounds for these via high-tech sample devices? Don't forget that I need a
software drum machine for the best sample percussion.

b) I also want to experiment with traditional Turkish instruments and make a
synthesis of these timbres and orchestral scores. I desire to be able to
manipulate the pitch of each note with the utmost precision within the
register of a piano. Microtonality should not be an option, it should be a
standard. Also, I don't want to sacrifice 64-tone polyphony. I doubt if MIDI
is sufficient. Can you recommend the best interface?

2. Investment? Major Platforms? You mean operating system? No, I want to
build the system from scratch.

3. A few deci-grand.
