"Perfect pitch means nothing!" That's what one of my guitarstudents told me.
She is in a position to say so, because she has got perfect pitch herself.
She is complaining hearing separate notes (names) all the time, having
trouble to appreciate the way they sound together. This pretty much seems
to confirm your remark.
