The Golden Horn Shipyards Concerto

🔗Ozan Yarman <ozanyarman@superonline.com>

I have uploaded a new hi-fi recording of my Golden Horn Shipyards Concerto to this address:

http://www.ozanyarman.com/mainpage/compositions.html

Though of little tuning interest to many, some of you might still find some musical material to enjoy.

I also would like to announce that this concerto may actually be performed in the very Golden Horn Shipyards in a few months' time.

Cordially,
Ozan Yarman

Yipe! You uploaded a wav file. If you want to use a lossless format, I
suggest using Flac or Monkey instead, so as to get some compression.
But really, I think ogg or mp3 at a high quality setting would be fine.

If only I had the plug-ins! So, did you listen to it? did you like it?

You don't need any plug-ins.

So, did you listen to it? did you like it?

I've listened to other stuff of yours, but I was hoping you'd put up a
file that wasn't a wav. There's a good reason wav is not a standard
file sharing format for the web.

Since I have DSL, the downloading was always just a wee bit ahead of the playback, and I liked it.

Without any plugins, you could have posted the midi and left the listeners at the mercy of their own soundcard. Admittedly, there is a chance that some will have a closer look at your tricks of the trade (so midi has additional benefits, from my point of view).

Was that commissioned by a trumpeter? If not, expect to be cursed by the poor guy who is going to play it.

Take ogg if you can, it deserves a little boost. I'm not going to buy any of them "mp3-players" before the ones that handle ogg are in the same price range as the literal ones.

Dear Gene, Dominique, Klaus

My clumsiness... I think this mp3 version will work.

Dear Klaus,

There were such effects as steam engines, electrical saws, diesel motors and seagull screeches that I just couldn't leave to the mercy of midi sound cards.

Also, the tempos should be reduced by many notches, so much so that the piece will extend as much as 5 minutes, to say nothing of solo passages that I must insert for a live performance.

The poor trumpeter might indeed be cursing me for that demonic articulations! But perhaps a slower tempo might save me from his wrath?

Ozan

Listened to most of it with interest -- good work. Maybe ... hoping you'd like public commentary that includes even criticism ... with your steam engines, etc, the work sounds just a little scattered moment by moment, and perhaps even too prosaic section by section.

Dear Guglielmo, the orchestration gets better following the 2nd movement,
and I strongly recommend that you listen to the 4th.

Yes, I need to work on refining certain sections, adding melancholic solo
passages and simplyfying the orchestral texture for a more unified pattern.
I have to cut down the effects of anvils and boilers too. It is just my
tendency of overdoing things as usual. Besides, it was a drudgery working
with Encore. Never again will I use it for transcribing such a long work.

BTW, I have listened to your Holy Day Overture, but did not have the chance
to comment on it till now. You have composed a most interesting work I must
say. Though, I'm more partial to harmonies made of 7-8 notes stacked per
beat or syncopation.

Thank you for the comments!
Cordially,
Ozan
