Some material about Dinarra

(Read: DEENARHA)

The dinarra is a microtonal musical instrument invented in the year 1977
by Eduardo Sabat Garibaldi of Montevideo, Uruguay. The name dinarra
was coined by blending the Spanish nouns DINamica and guitARRA.

The only difference between the dinarra and conventional guitars
(whether acoustic or electronic) is the quantity of frets, which are 53
per Octave. A total of 75 frets are to be found along the neck of
acoustical guitars and 92 frets in the case of electronic ones.

The dinarra has 6 strings which are tuned in the same fashion as those
of the conventional guitar. If the frets are correctly positioned, the
tuning by the use of harmonics should be identical to the tuning by
positions. This represents an improvement on the conventional guitars,
which can be tuned either by positions or alternatively by harmonics,
but not both simultaneously.

The first dinarra was made in June 1977 by an Italian luthier named
Germano Banchetti, born in Arezzo, Italy.

The acoustical dinarra has a lid tuner which is patented. It is a very
light item which allows for extremely fine tuning of the instrument, by
varying the length of the strings, without altering their sound.

A book on the theory and practice of the dinarra called Principios de
la Gama Dinmica (Principles of the Dynamic Gamut ) written in the
Spanish language was published by its inventor in June 1994 (no
translations into other languages have as yet been made).

The First Dinarra Concert took place in November 1998 at the Cabildo
(Old Municipal Building) of Montevideo. Dinarra players were Alejandro
Snchez and Johannes Stenger. The program of this Concert included
Modern and Jazz music, executed in the two types of dinarras above
described.

Hi Carl !!!
At this time I am completing, together with Charles Ayling, the translation of my book "Priciples of the Dynamic Gamut" We have been working on this for the last two years and expect to finish in about a month.
Because of this I have not participated in the Tuning Digest.
I was very glad to learn that the participants of Tuning Digest have now reached over 700 ! .
When I finish the translation I will be glad to join the group again.

All the best
Eduardo
