Consonance/dissonance - theory (in response to request for other than Helmholtz ideas)

There seem to be many theories for mapping consonance/dissonance.

Here is one which seems to work well.

In essence, intervals which are closer on the spiral of fourths and fifths, are more consonant than those which require more steps of fourths and fifths.
