Need guidance

Hello ALL, I need guidance in preparing a lecture-cum-demonstration
on Indian classical music. The audience is qualified and experienced
teachers of Western music in schools.

What topics should be included? In what order? How to introduce and
elaborate the concepts of raaga, taal, and embellishments (gamaka,
etc.)? Scales, tuning and temperaments? What are the similarities
between the two genres? Main differences?

Any references/books for me to prepare myself for the purpose?

Thanking for your time and help,
Haresh.

Look at the book "Worlds of Music" by Titon. There are chapters on
South and North Indian music with good examples to try out with students.

Something that would be useful to me--that I'll be looking for in earnest soon--is a "typical" harmonium tuning used in Indian classical music. I'd use it in the hope of clarifying or refuting the idea of "microtones" in Indian music being "arbitrary", ie at the performers discretion, or merely ornamental/expressive, in the same way...(With an eye towards a compelling demonstration of JI, at least as it occurs in a lot of that music...?)
