Does anyone know what Jon Catler's 49 and 62 notes per octave are?

i don't have the specifics handy, but AFAIK he's always
used 13-limit JI.

you can get Catler's book for $25 from his website
http://microtones.com/

there's also a list of available CDs

But it doesn't tell you exactly what he uses on his guitar.

I'm not on the best terms with Jon,
but he did ask me not to tell anyone the tuning.

But I can say this: for a guy that plays with La Monte Young,
he has a hell of a lot of 5 limit intervals in this guitar.

It's a 13 limit tuning with select subharmonic intervals in
the keys of E, A and D.

He uses the 63rd and 189th harmonics, inherited from La Monte Young.

He does mention the 39th harmonic, a neutral third that he uses instead of
a 11/9.

oh jeez... "trade secrets" :-P

As if the tuning you use has anything to do with the quality of your music.
I mean- a talented musican will be talented in any tuning, and a no-count
will persist in not counting in any tuning likewise.

when someone is that way (secretive)it makes me lose interest in their work
almost faster than anything.

I like Jon's fretless work best anyway...

It does keep people from analyzing the scale, which has proven to be
a traumatic experience for some.

Well, be sure to tell them both that it is something they can get over with aromatherapy...

Cheers,
