12-09-03 On Sunday, November 2nd, Joe Maneri recieved the ICAP
(International Committee of Artists for Peace) Humanity in the Arts
Peace Award. The award was presented at a concert given by ICAP
musicians Buster Williams, Larry Coryell, Jun Saito and Ben
Schwendener. This concert was put together in celebration of the SGI
(Soka Gakkai International) sponsored exhibit "Creating a Culture of
Peace for Children of the World" at the Harvard University Graduate
School of Education's Gutman Library.
Joe was awarded this honor for his beautiful spirit of uniting people
through innovative, heartfelt music coupled with his warm, embracing
humanity, which he has put forth for so many years as an educator.
Past recipients of this award include Nelson Mandela, Zubin Mehta,
Dr. Lawrence Carter and Betty Williams. Congratulations Joe!

8-30-03 The new movie American Splendor (Fine Line Features),
documenting the life of writer Harvey Pekar, opens with Paniot's Nine
from Joe's album of that name. The soundtrack featuring Paniot's Nine
is available from New Line Records.
NPR has an excerpt from a comic strip about Joe by Harvey Pekar.
Pekar, one of Joe's strongest supporters, agreed to let the
filmmakers make the movie on the condition that Joe's music be used
in the soundtrack.
