Here are the answers to the Cents Puzzler I posted a couple of days ago at:

http://www.strangemusic.com/centspuzzle.htm

If you have not given it a try and want to do so, do not read on. The answers are below...

The ordering of the pitches in the Part 1 were:

1 2 5 3 4

with 5 being the highest.

The only one who nailed it (I guess) was Haresh in his response:

>Hello Patrick, my guesses:

>Puzzle #1: 0 1 4 2 3

Even though he listed the pitches as their cents relation to the lowest pitch, the shape of the row is correct.

Nobody nailed the melodic interval's distance in Part 2 correctly. It was created from low to high, going from pitch 2 to pitch 5, thereby creating a distance between them of three cents.

Thanks to everyone who gave it a shot.

There's still the 5 Cent Puzzler to try if you haven't yet!

Happy Holidays,

-Patrick

Patrick,

I would have been astounded if anyone got it with their unaided ear,
i.e. without tuning up a drone or using software or hardware
assistance, or some such.

And indeed I can't find where Haresh, or anyone else, posted the above
solution. Please explain.
