Well Tempered?

Maybe I'm throwing stones, but assertions as to the precise tuning Bach used, I often wonder if he meant it as a pun, that only a reasonably in tune (to whatever system) clavier could play all the preludes and fugues.

As opposed to ill tempered, out of tune one...
