Hello all,

there is a "request for enhancement" on Sun Microsystem's website,
concerning adding microtonal support to the Java programming language.

26 votes for "Adding Microtonal support to Java Sound API"
http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4705306.html
(Registration required)

With 26 votes, it is not likely to be implemented soon.

Since October 2003, there has been on lot of voting for "supporting
the vietnamese localization in Java".

2307 votes for "Support for Locale Vietnamese vi_VN"
http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4932968.html
(Registration required)

Support for locale vi_VN is the most requested feature on Sun's website.
http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/top25rfes.html

Once this feature is added to the Java language, these 2307 votes will
become available for supporting other requests. For example,
microtonal support.

I do not know anything about vietnamese music, but I am willing to bet
that some of their music uses tuning systems other than 12-edo.

It would be a good idea to write a comment on the voting page,
informing the vi_VN supporters of the tuning issue and how they can
potentially benefit from it.

If you want to show your support for microtonal tuning in Java, I
encourage you to reply to this message on the tuning list. Your reply
should explain why alternative tunings are important for the
vietnamese culture.

If the response to the present message justifies it, I will then post
your replies on the appropriate page of Sun's website.
