Hi
I'm Andri, student in Bandung Institute Technology Indonesia.
I try to study the gamelan scale in my extra curriculer.
I have a question : Does pelog scale (Central java) equal to 9 equal
temperament?
Thanks

Andri

Hello Andri!
few people havew noticed that the chain of variable size fifth common to Pelog if carried
out would form a nice cycle of 9 tones. This has been shown to many indonesian who have found not
use for it. For the most part, the size of ther fifths tend to not be the same size.

What are the relationships between Indonesian scale (Slendro and
pelog) with Indian scale in tuning aspect?

Andri

Dear Andri,

There are two website that have pelog as 9 ET. The first is full of errors but useful nonetheless.

http://www.fin.ne.jp/~yokubota/mandsui2/mands2e.shtml

http://w1.570.telia.com/~u57011259/pelog_main.htm

http://w1.570.telia.com/~u57011259/Gamelan%20pelog%20D.htm

There is a composition in pelog posted at

http://www.efn.org/~qehn/tunes/subaka-p.htm

and a tuning of a German gamelan at

http://www.uni-oldenburg.de/musik/gamelan/gamelan4.html

These are all the bookmarks I have on the subject.
