Open Tunings help

Hi Tuners

I was at this web site

http://www.dennysguitars.homestead.com/whyopentune1.html

and was confused as to what he is trying to say about voicings. Can
anyone please explain this to me. I understand everything up to the
point where it says (in red type)"ACHIEVING GIANT STEPS IN
UNDERSTANDINGAND USING OPEN TUNING VOICINGS:" which is about half way
down the page.

I play slide guitar in open "E" tuning which is E,B,E,G#,B,E but it
sounds as if his method of tuning the open E chord should be 135135
which is E,G#,B,E,G#,B. This tuning also puts "less stress" on the
guitars neck. Apparently by using this tuning, I have more access to
other sounds???????? Is this what he is trying to say?

Thanks
Walter

Hi Walter,

I know you've posted about alternate (non-12-equal) tunings before.
This website of course concerns 12-equal and only 12-equal, without
even saying so, so doesn't really qualify as appropriate subject
matter for this list. But I'd be happy to communicate with you on
this offlist or on some other list -- it doesn't look all that
complicated.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Walter

He is stating you will have 2
E major triads in the standard 12tet
tuning for the standard fretted 12 tone
guitar.

"This tuning also puts "less

I do not see how this tuning would have
"less stress" on the guitar's neck.......
The sounds are of the 12tet major triad
and other different triads.....how will this
"access to other sounds"?
Joel

If you're tuning three strings sharp, there is more tension
on the neck!
